Get Well Soon & Best Wishes - Jenny Frankum (Chairman of Chief Instructors Committee)

Pony Club NSW would like to extend our best wishes to Jenny Frankum who suffered a brain aneurism in September. Jenny is doing very well and after a long recovery in Hospital she is now beginning a rehabilitation program in Camden. We wish Jenny and her family all the best on her road to a remarkable recovery.

2016 Prince Phillip National Mounted Games Championships

Congratulations to the NSW Junior Mounted Games team that represented the state at the National Mounted Games Championships in Western Australia. Riders Eouise Bacon, Michael Crawley, Trent McErlane, Jared Newham and Ella Pearse together with NSW Coach, Anthony Newham, and Team Manager Michelle Newham attended the National championships from the 29th September – 3rd October 2016 to compete against all other States. The NSW Team worked incredibly hard in trying conditions to come home with an impressive 2nd place to the winning Western Australia team.



2017 State Camp

The 2017 Annual State Camp will be held from the 8th-13th January 2017 at Sydney International Equestrian Centre. Applications are now open (available on our website) and will close on the 1st November. Riders can apply for Showjumping, Eventing, Dressage, Horsemanship or Mounted Games, and enjoy 4 days of professional instruction from some of the best coaches in Australia.

State Camp nominations must be signed by Club and Zone officials. The Association recommends that riders protect their horse against Hendra Virus, however Hendra Vaccination is not compulsory for thr 2017 State Camp. Camp fees for 2017 are $250 per rider – this includes daily instruction, stabling, stable bedding, accommodation and meals.


United States Pony Clubs has invited Pony Club Australia to the 2017 Inter-Pacific Exchange to be held in North and South Carolina June 28- July 12, 2017. The invitation is extended to a team of four riders, one chaperone and one coach. 

IPE participants will tour the host country, visiting various areas and various pony clubs. The teams also participate in three competitions which may include showjumping and eventing, and spend many hours training for the competitions. The tour will also include cultural experiences in the Tryon, North Carolina Region, the Great Smoky Mountains and an American Fourth of July Celebration. The Nations Cup will be held at Tryon, which is bidding to host the 2018 World Equestrian Games.  

Please note: The age limit for the 2017 IPE has been amended to riders aged 24 or under at 1st January 2017. Riders must hold their B Certificate prior to selections. If you are interested in being selected for this exchange please read the Pony Club Australia information sheet, and complete the application form which can be found on the Pony Club Association NSW website which needs to be returned to the State Office by the 1st November 2016. Canada Pony Club has invited Pony Club Australia to the 2017 International Mounted Games Exchange to be held in Canada. The rider will be selected from eligible riders attending the 2017 State Camp. If you are interested in being selected for this exchange please read the Pony Club Australia information sheet, and complete the application form which can be found on the Pony Club Association NSW website which needs to be returned to the State Office by the 1st November 2016. To be eligible for selection you must be aged 15 as at 1st January 2017.The selection committee will be at the 2017 State Pony Club Camp and selectors will be looking at a range of criteria and abilities. These include the following:

  • Riding ability
  • General horsemanship knowledge and ability
  • Manners
  • Presentation of themselves, their horses and their gear
  • Communications skills
  • Cooperation and team work
  • Self-reliance and level of maturity
  • Stable craft

The successful rider will be representing both Pony Club Association NSW and Pony Club Australia and must therefore be a suitable ambassador for our State and Country. For full details in regard to this exchange please see the International Exchange tab on the Pony Club Australia website

The Pony Club Australia National Championships will be held in Toowoomba from the 16th – 23rd September 2017. The long list will be released before the end of the year for those riders who applied. Update forms are required on 7th July 2017 before the final team is selected.

Zones are encouraged to submit applications to host State Championships in the usual way for 2018 however if we do not receive any applications from Zones by the March 2017 meeting for 2018 Championships we will once again look at holding Combined Championships.

Members are reminded that all forms must be signed in accordance with the Associations rules and that in the event that the Club Secretary is not available then approval should be sought from the Zone and/or State Office for another authorised person to sign on their behalf. Please note nominations should not be signed by a member’s relative without permission (as above) as this may lead to a perception of a conflict of interest.


Are you a new Club or Zone Secretary or other Office Bearer? Are you unsure about meeting procedures, codes of conduct or just where to find information? Zones are reminded that members of the State Executive are available for Administration Schools.

These schools to be held at your Zone are booked via the office and can cover a range of issues to help Clubs/Zones including – affiliations, transfers, orders, incorporation, meeting procedure, NCAS, grants, insurance, risk management, Work Health & Safety, Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO), Working with Children Check obligations, conflict resolution and many others. The Pony Club Association of NSW has produced a high quality photographic year book of the highlights for 2016. The book features all of the major state events starting with the 2016 State Camp. Included are the reports, results and photographs from our Combined State Championships and Interstate Pony Club Championships. The Year Books can be purchased for $50 by filling in the order form available from our website under the Forms tab and returning with payment to the office. Books will be ordered in one bulk order, please allow up to 21 days for delivery. The Year Book is a 60 page, hard cover, colour book, 33.5cm wide and 27cm high. Past Year Books are also for sale just specify the year.
