Combined State Championships at Tamworth

The 2017 Pony Club NSW State Combined Championships have wrapped up at the Australian Equine & Livestock Events Centre in Tamworth. Competitions ran from Saturday 1st – Saturday 8th July including the State Showriding, Showjumping, Dressage and Jumping Equitation Championships.

380 riders and close to 400 immaculately presented horses took part in the event, showcasing a huge amount of talent that impressed Judges in all disciplines.

Showjumping & Jumping Equitation Judge Katrina Dukats said she was delighted with the competitors, “I enjoyed the exceptionally high standard of presentation of horse and rider and the politeness of the riders”.

July Meetings

C42/17            That the host venue nominations for 2018 State Championships be accepted     

  • 2018 Showriding and Dressage – Zone 26 Clarendon 25-28 January
  • 2018 Sporting, Campdraft and Team Penning – Zone 9 North Dorrigo 14-16 April
  • 2018 Mounted Games and Team Sporting – Zone 14 Cobargo 29 September – 1 October
  • 2018 One Day Event and Combined Training – Zone 5 Coonabarabran 5-7 October


C39/17            That a person holding a Gear Check Certificate must be present at all Club fixtures including riding.                      

All instructors certificates have a gear check component as per of their certificate.

Note: this addition is a safety issue as there must be someone at the fixture to inspect gear and make sure that it is in sound condition, is fitted correctly and is Pony Club approved.

Mounted Games and Team Sporting

The schedule notes that two days have been set aside for both championships however if numbers allow this may be shortened to one and half days each to allow riders/families to leave early. Office to purchase enough sets of helmet covers for the championship and they be retained by the office.

Sporting, Campdraft & Team Penning

No recommended changes at this time Mrs J Frankum asked for feedback on any changes to the Sporting games and suggested members write their preferences down for them to be discussed at the next meeting.


C40/17            That for 2018 Showjumping championship the grades remain the same as 2017 with the following classes:

1st day of the competition – A2 and Grand Prix

2nd day of the competition AMG and Accumulator


C43/17            That zones have one month to submit a nomination for a host venue for the 2018 Jumping Equitation and Showjumping Championship to be held 7-10 July 2018 and that the State Executive be granted leave to make a decision pending nominations received.

C46/17            That [in 2018] the ODE and CT Championships be extended to allow riders to compete in both competitions and not have to choose between the two.

All other agenda motions were either withdrawn or lost.

C49/17           That cross country course grant be granted to Denman upon completion of course.    

C50/17           That Section 8 page 18 of the handbook to read as.

These penalties are cumulative.

For every second in excess of optimum time or for

every second or part thereof under optimum time

Time is counted from the signal to start until the instant when the horse’s nose passes the finishing post.


Pony Club Australia 2017 National Championships

The Pony Club Australia National Championships are being held at Toowoomba Showgrounds, Queensland from the 17th – 23th September 2017. Riders have been selected for all disciplines.


2017 State Mounted Games & TEAM SPORTING Championships

The 2017 State Mounted Games & Team Sporting Championships will be held at Bungendore Showground from Friday 29th September – Monday 2nd October 2017. Schedule and Entries are available on the PCANSW Website now and entries will close on Thursday 31st September 2017. Schedule here.

2017 State One Day Event & Combined Training Championships

The 2017 State One Day Event & Combined Training Championships will be held at Harden Showground on the 7th & 8th October 2017. Schedule and entries are available now on the PCANSW Website, entries will close on Friday 1st September 2017. Schedule here.

The Pony Club Association of NSW has produced a high quality photographic year book of the highlights for 2016. The book features all of the major state events starting with the 2016 State Camp. Included are the reports, results and photographs from our State Championships and the Pony Club Australia Prince Phillip Mounted Games Championships. The Year Books can be purchased for $50 by filling in the order form available from our website under the Club & Zone Management/Merchandise tab and returning with payment to the office. Books will be ordered in one bulk order, please allow up to 21 days for delivery. The Year Book is a 60 page, hard cover, colour book, 33.5cm wide and 27cm high. Past Year Books are also for sale just specify the year.
