New Appointment to the Pony Club Australia Board

Posted: Fri, 24th Nov 2017

Pony Club Australia is pleased to announce that Dr Juliet Skinner has been appointed to fill a casual vacancy on the board.

Dr Skinner is a General Practitioner from North Queensland, and has over 20 years’ experience in rural and remote medical practice, dealing with all types of patients and presentations, including at numerous equestrian events, and in supervision of registrars and medical students.

Dr Skinner has had a lifelong passion for horses, growing up with the family riding school in the United Kingdom. Dr Skinner was an active competitor in equestrian sport throughout her youth and has been a member of Mareeba Pony Club in Queensland, along with her daughter, for the past 8 years. Dr Skinner has taken an active role at the club as past Secretary and Zone Delegate, and has travelled to state and national Pony Club Championships.

“I am looking forward to contributing to communication with the grass roots of Pony Club, its members and families. I would like to encourage expansion of Quiz, as it is not dependant on the best horse or gear, and more country disciplines such as camp drafting to increase retention of boys in Pony Club“ Dr Skinner said.

Carol Paterson, Board Chair, said, “In addition to Dr Skinner’s professional expertise, Pony Club Australia is delighted that Juliet’s experience and perspective of horse management and equestrian sport in more remote and northern areas further adds to the diversity of the board. It is essential that we recognise all geographic areas particularly those that have the challenges of distance and climate.”

PCA recognises the value of collective and complementary skills and independence of directors to deliver on the Strategic Plan for the organisation.

Dr Skinner joins the national board of the organisation that already has expertise in corporate finance, law, risk and compliance, equitation science, equine medicine and biosecurity, coaching, and management of Pony Club at the club, zone, state, national and international level.
