The country town of Scone is busy preparing to host the prestigious Pony Club NSW State Show Riding Championship on the 6-7th December at White Park, Scone.

The Championship is hosted by Pony Clubs located in the local Zone 7 area and has attracted an impressive 230 competitors.

The equestrian discipline of Show Riding is an event where horse and rider demonstrate their skills on the flat. The horse is judged on confirmation, paces and manners, whilst riders are judged on their riding ability.

According to host Zone 7 event organiser Julee Morgan, in order to prepare for the championship, local Pony Club Zone 7 riders have been, “enthusiastically practicing their show riding skills at individual club rally days, competition days and of course at our recent Jamboree. The Jamboree program mirrored State Show Riding Championship (SSRC) events to give our members the opportunity to practice these events. For the riders who are not competing this year at SSRC this gave them the opportunity to experience Show Riding, including team events, and for some, gave them the drive to work towards 2015 SSRC.”

“The SSRC committee has been working hard to make this year’s SSRC a memorable event. We have gathered some great sponsorship which has allowed us to look at rugs and perhaps garlands for our Champions and Reserve Champions. Our merchandise is bright and fun, orders have closed, but if you have missed out there will be a small selection for sale, and we will consider taking orders, on the competition weekend (dependant on garment and postage prices). We will also be hosting a Happy Hour on the Saturday afternoon and invite all riders and their family and friends to join Zone 7 at the end of the first day of competition.”

“The weather in December is more than likely to be hot. We have arranged water stations for the riders at the entrance of each ring, but would like to remind all competitors to make sure they are well prepared for hot weather, both rider and horse. Entry to White Park will be on Guernsey Street only. Stables are big and roomy, shavings are supplied and camping is relatively close to the stables. Power is extremely limited, so please bring your own generator where possible.”

Entry is free and spectators are most welcome to come along and watch the competitors in action.

The Pony Club Association of NSW State Show Riding Championship is followed by the Pony Club NSW State Camp. The annual Pony Club NSW State Camp is a High Performance Camp that brings together the top 70 riders in NSW in Dressage, Showjumping, Eventing, Mounted Games and Advanced Horsemanship. This year’s camp will be held from the 4-9th January 2015 at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre. Riders receive instruction from top Australian Instructors and lectures from horse industry professionals.

The Pony Club NSW State Show Riding Championships are supported by Sport and Recreation a division of Communities NSW, Mitavite official feed partner, major sponsor Global Entries Online, as well as other local sponsors.
