COVID-19 Community Sport Update
Posted: Tue, 28th Sep 2021
Current as at 28th September 2021
It has been indicated by the NSW Government that Community Sport will be allowed to resume training and competition at 80% double vaccination rates across NSW. The NSW Minister for Sport lobbied the Health Minister to open Community Sport at 70% double vaccination rates, however it appears that the Government are sticking to 80% at this stage.
The NSW Government has indicated that 80% double vaccination rates are projected to be reached by the end of October. Clubs can cautiously start preparing to resume activities by this time, being aware that it will not be “back to normal”, but the start of a new normal for our activities. We have not been given any indication of what these guidelines will entail, however the NSW Government’s messaging has been very strong regarding vaccinations. We will advise members as soon as we hear any further updates. The preliminary NSW roadmap and information can be found here, to see what you can and can’t do now, click here.
To address the confusion regarding the Government’s messaging surrounding Community Sport and the Public Health Order: Sport NSW has advised that the Public Health order’s spirit and intention for outdoor gatherings was to allow for exercise and recreation, not community sport.
Keep in mind that your Pony Club NSW Riding Membership gives you 24/7 insurance cover, and you are allowed to exercise in groups (numbers depend on where you live), therefore we encourage our members to get outdoors, get riding, and start gearing up for a return to sport. Unfortunately no sanctioned Pony Club NSW events may commence until we get the green light to open community sport.
We encourage clubs to start planning the remainder of the year, get in touch with members to do some theory and certificate work, and riders start getting your horses back in work and ready to go.
The ACT Government have advised that if vaccination and case numbers remain as projected, Community Sport may be able to resume in the ACT on the 29th of October. They have provided an excellent road map for the opening of the ACT, find this here. Until then, no community sport may resume in the ACT.
Pony Club NSW will be working closely with Sport NSW and the Office of Sport to develop a clear pathway back to the sport we love. If you have any questions or ideas, we would love to hear from our Pony Club Community. We thank you for your support at this time and are looking forward to seeing you get back on the horse.
