The Office of Sport clarifies FAQ relating to the Covid-19 5km rule

The Office of Sport has received several enquiries relating to the 5km rule across the areas of concern, Greater Sydney, and Regional NSW. Below are some responses to frequently asked questions based on the current Public Health Orders.

The overarching advice from NSW Health is to stay local, minimise movements outside your home, and minimise unnecessary interactions with others.

Advice for Local Government Areas of Concern

The local government areas of concern in Greater Sydney are Bayside, Blacktown, Burwood, Campbelltown, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cumberland, Fairfield, Georges River, Liverpool, Parramatta, Strathfield, and some suburbs of Penrith.

The reasonable excuses to leave home in a local government area of concern can be found HERE.

Yes. Under the Public Health Order, you can leave your house for exercise. This can be anywhere within 5 km of your home, including within an adjoining local government area (or another local government area of concern) if the area you are exercising is within 5 km of your home. 

 

Yes. Under the Public Health Order, you can leave your house for exercise. This can be anywhere within 5 km of your home, including within an adjoining local government area (or another local government area of concern) if the area you are exercising is within 5 km of your home. 

 

No. If a person lives in a local government area of concern, the maximum radius people can travel from their home to participate in exercise is 5km.

 


Advice for Greater Sydney and Regional NSW local government areas (excluding the areas of concern)

People living in a local government area that are not classified as an area of concern may undertake exercise and outdoor recreation within: their local government area OR, if they need to cross into another local government area, within 5km of their home.

Yes. Under the Public Health Order, you can leave your home to undertake exercise or outdoor recreation anywhere within your local government area OR within a 5km radius of your home. This includes an adjoining local government area or local government area of concern if they are within 5 km of your home.

 

Yes. Under the Public Health Order, you can leave your home to undertake exercise or outdoor recreation anywhere within your with local government area OR within a 5km radius of your home. This includes entering into the Greater Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong, Shellharbour local government areas if they are within 5km of your home.

For example, if you live in Kiama Downs in the Kiama LGA, you may undertake exercise up to 5km from your home, which includes some of the Shellharbour LGA
