Riders Saddling Up for the State Jumping Equitation Championships
Posted: Tue, 11th May 2021
The 2021 Pony Club NSW State Jumping Equitation Championships will take place on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th of May at Kootingal Pony Club.
The event is hosted by Zone 5, which encompasses the Tamworth region. This is the first State Equitation Championship that have gone ahead since July 2018 due to covid restrictions and cancellations, so this event is clearly long overdue. Riders throughout the state are eagerly preparing to compete.
This event has attracted over 70 young riders who will represent their Pony Clubs from all over NSW. Competitors will bring their families, friends, and helpers to Kootingal for some of the toughest pony club competition in the State. Spectators are invited to come along and watch the competition which starts at 8:30am each morning.
The Pony Club Association of NSW has been hosting Jumping Equitation State Championships since 1999. These competitions were originally held in conjunction with the State Showjumping Championships, but as Equitation grew in popularity it needed to have a championship of its own. Equitation requires horse and rider to complete a Showjumping course whilst they are simultaneously scored on their riding ability, presentation, and ability to complete set tasks. These tasks include actions such as jumping a particular fence at an angle or jumping the first obstacle at a trot.
Riders competing are aged between 7 and 26 years. As we were not able to run any State Championships in 2020, our State Council agreed to allow riders that would have “aged out” in 2021 to compete for one final year. For 2021 only, riders are able to compete until the end of the year in which they turn 26. This is an invaluable opportunity for many.
The most successful riders in each Championship Age group will be awarded the 2021 Age Champion award and receive a sash, trophy, Wintec Trophy rug, and gift bag from Ranvet. The most successful Zone will also receive awards with up to 4 of the highest point scoring riders from the same zone receiving a sash and trophy.
Chris Miller will be attending the event as the official photographer. Thank you to the generous sponsors of the Pony Club NSW State Championships, WINTEC and RANVET.
